The Springboro volleyball teams swept conference rival Centerville Elks last night with Varsity, JV Blue, and JV White teams each getting wins in the Dominos Gymnasium.

The Panthers and Elks headed into the match 1-1 on the season, with last night’s third meeting a match of pride and bragging rights.

The Panthers lost the first set 19-25 but bounced back to take the second set 25-19. The teams would split the third and fourth sets again 20-25, 25-20, taking them into a fifth and final deciding set.

The fifth set began with the Elks jumping out to a quick 3-0 lead but after a timeout the Panthers refocused their efforts and began a slow steady comeback. Tied at 8-8, junior Logan Dixon ended the rally with a kill to gain serve at 9-8. Then, a timely ace from sophomore Katelyn Beatty created a momentum shift and the Panthers never looked back, winning the fifth set 15-9, improving their record to 15-4.

Of special note, Junior setter, Kaitlyn Brown, broke the Single Season Assist record previously held since 2007. Kaitlyn will continue to add to that number as the season continues.

Go Panthers!
