A day after learning of the death of beloved Springboro Junior Varsity Coach Wayne Kemper the Springboro Lady Panthers found a way to rally late and pull out a huge emotional win over rival Centerville 53-50 on a difficult night at Troy HS.
The Panthers roared to an emotional 15-0 Sectional Final lead to start the game but saw the Elks rally for 12 straight points of their own to close the quarter. Centerville outscored Boro 16-9 in the second to take a 4 point lead to half time.
The Elks led by 6 at the outset of the fourth quarter. When the Lady Panthers hit consecutive 3’s, one by Jordan Crace and a second by McKel Nation they gained their first lead since early in the second quarter. Nation tallied 7 of her 11 points in that decisive final quarter, took a charge, blocked a key shot, and defended on the perimeter flawlessly to key the rally. Jordan Hobbs went 4/4 from the FT line and Peyton Nation hit a FT to give Springboro a 3 point lead with 13 seconds remaining. A late 3 pt. shot by Cville fell well short and the Panthers were Sectional Champions.
Jordan Hobbs led Springboro scorers with 20 points. She added 6 rebounds to her stat line. Peyton Nation added 13 points. And as mentioned above, sister McKel totaled 11 points. The win sends the Panthers to the District Championship game this Saturday vs. Lakota West. The Panthers beat West back in November 49-36 in their season opener.
